A Day at a Villa with a Pool in Miyakojima | A Private Stay by the Water

Nagine at night: the private pool and terrace, lit after dark

A pool is defined less by whether it exists than by who you share it with.

Even a large pool, if shared with other guests, means choosing when to go, looking for a place to sit, and being mindful of how loudly you speak. A smaller pool, if reserved for one group, can be used whenever you feel like it.

On Nagine’s terrace, you’ll find a private pool, an outdoor bed, and an outdoor table. In this article, we introduce how the pool can be used throughout the day, following the flow of time.

What it means to have a private pool

No waiting in line, no one else’s eyes on you

Nagine is a single-villa property reserved for one group per day, with no shared areas. The pool and terrace are yours alone during your stay.

There is no need to decide in advance when to use them. Dip your feet in briefly in the morning, return at midday, then again in the evening. You can step into the water as many times a day as you like, according to the mood of the moment.

Return to your room in your swimsuit

At a shared pool, you have to pass through hallways and lobbies before returning to your room. Putting on a cover-up, gathering your belongings, and worrying about wet feet—simply being spared this sequence makes the water feel much closer.

As the terrace extends directly beyond the living room’s large windows, those in the room and those by the pool can spend time as if they are simply continuing in the same space.

How the pool changes with the time of day

Morning | A water surface untouched by footprints

In the morning, if there is no wind, the pool becomes mirror-like. The sky’s color is reflected on the still surface, settled through the night.

You do not need to swim. Sitting by the pool with a coffee and listening to the water can change the way a day begins. Yonaha Maehama Beach is about a 5-minute walk away, so mornings that start with a stroll along the sand before returning are especially pleasant.

Early afternoon | How to spend the hours of strong sunlight

On days when the sun is intense, there are times—especially in the few hours after midday—when staying around the villa is more comfortable than walking outdoors.

This is where a villa with a pool truly comes into its own. Step into the water with a cold drink, then move indoors when it gets hot. Rest on the shaded outdoor bed, then return again. You preserve more energy than if you spent the day moving between sights under the sun.

Evening | The late sun and the terrace

As the sunlight softens, the terrace changes. It becomes an especially pleasant place to sit by the pool.

There are days when you may want to bring dishes to the outdoor table and dine outside. An electric BBQ grill is available as a paid option for ¥5,000. There is no need to prepare charcoal or lighting tools, so you can decide based on the mood of the day. Please bring your own ingredients.

Night | Wind and the outdoor bed

Once it grows dark, the terrace feels like a different place from daytime. There are few lights in the neighborhood, and the wind moves quietly around the water and the outdoor bed.

Lying on the outdoor bed and looking up at the sky is one of the quietest moments you can have in Miyakojima. That said, at night we ask for consideration toward the surrounding area when speaking on the terrace or poolside, or when using music or Bluetooth speakers. This is due to the property’s location, surrounded by a quiet village and nature.

Having both sea and pool

You may think it is too indulgent to come all the way to Miyakojima and still spend time in a pool. But once you stay here, you may find yourself appreciating the meaning of having both.

The sea is shaped by wind, tide, and weather. On days with high waves, strong wind, or passing rain, a pool ensures that time by the water is never lost.

The flow after returning from the sea also changes. Shake off the sand, rinse off in the separate shower room, and place your swimsuit in the drum washer-dryer. Then step back into the pool and spend the rest of the afternoon on the terrace. The effect of having the sea and pool connected within walking distance becomes greater the longer you stay.

Do nothing, beside the sound of water

The reason to choose a villa with a pool is not only to swim. It is to be in a place where you can hear the sound of water, undisturbed by anyone else. To have that feeling continue throughout the day.
